COMING SOON: Santa Fe Railyards Mural
“Life’s a Picnic!”
January through September 2026
In the Summer of 2025, Abstract Picnic submitted a proposal for a mural & cyanotype event in the Santa Fe Railyards for 2026. Their idea was based around the metaphor that life IS a picnic we’re always preparing, adjusting and gathering for in every possible sense. Picnics are an American institution, a beautiful expression of community and something the collective does often. Picnics unite people with the intention of being present and enjoying life. They also represent the best aspects of hospitality, playfulness and enjoyment of nature. Abstract Picnic hopes the imagery brings joy to the people of Santa Fe, encourages communal gatherings and provides amusement with the historical art references throughout the piece.
The collective received their acceptance letter in October 2025 and in December 2025 got the green light to create with sights on a January 2026 installation. With the help of Relay Santa Fe and 20+ Abstract Picnic members, the group executed mural creation seamlessly over a holiday weekend in 22hrs total. They had an absolute blast in the process and left the experience behind with even more appreciation for their community & talents.
The mural was produced by Carol Schrader, creatively directed by JESHAKA & technically directed by Will Slayden. The following members were also actively involved in the production since it’s inception: Brooke Reiche, Cienna “Cruz” Mellon, Mike Root, Ada Schrader, Andrew Brant, Emily Spykman, Lori Swartz, Billy Bilbro, Anzo, Emily Burg, Camilla Cluett, Jake Trujillo, Jacob Taylor, Bella Root, Shakti Kroopin, Aaron Geiser, Frank Meola, Aries Jo, Gabe, Molly Rae & ::Savor:: Arts.
The mural will reside on the restroom building facing the grassy hill where movies in the park take place. Stay tuned for updates on installation date, our match game & community events in 2026 while our mural resides in the railyards!
